Ministry Teams

Service is the lifeblood of our church. Your talents are a gift. Find a group you would like to join and contact us.

Audio Ministry
Our purpose is to monitor and maintain the Sanctuary sound system.  We live-stream the services as well as post each service to our YouTube channel.

Beautification
Our Ministry supports the environment of Unity Church of Greater Rochester by maintaining conditions and standards of beauty and order in our physical environment by maintaining the church grounds and gardens.

Bookstore
We offer books and materials that reflect Unity’s teachings and principles. Also available for sale are The Daily Word, Unity Magazine and other New Thought journals.

Church Photographer
Our photographer captures the beautiful moments of our church so that others may experience with their eyes what is felt in the heart.

Greeters
Volunteers welcome and provide hospitality and directions to all who enter Unity Church of Greater Rochester. We offer a warm smile and warm hug or handshake. We answer questions and, when there are new people, we have them put their names and contact information in the registration book and give them a name tag so others can address them by name. We help them find their way around and answer questions about Unity and our church.

Lending Library
Our library provides materials on Unity, New Thought and New Age philosophy and history for free circulation. Church members may sign out materials and are asked to return them in a timely fashion. Unity book donations to the library are welcome.

Music Committee
Our mission is to bring spiritually uplifting music to the congregation. The church has a song leader who joyfully leads the congregation in hymns. Music resounds in the souls of us all.

Newsletter
Our goal is to communicate with our membership and friends the joy, current events, inspiration and teachings of our church.  We circulate the newsletter via email and encourage people to subscribe.

Nominating Committee
A Nominating Committee initiates a search for at least two qualified candidates for the Board of Trustees. The committee consists of the minister, three active members selected at the annual meeting by the membership, and a representative of the current Board of Trustees.

Prayer Chaplain Team
Awakening to the Christ within ourselves through prayer, we affirm the divine identity in others so they can see it in themselves and receive its blessings. Chaplains are available each Sunday after the service to provide one-on-one prayer. The team meets regularly to pray and plan activities that support the prayer life and spiritual well-being of the congregation. Our Prayer Chaplains visit members in their homes, hospitals, or other settings and make phone calls to provide prayer and spiritual support.  Chaplains receive extensive training

Publicity & Social Media
The team seeks to reach out to the community and publicize our church teachings, activities, and events.   Our tools include the website, the newsletter, the Facebook page, the YouTube video channel, and various print materials.

Special Events Social Committee
The committee plans and implements social events, involving set-up, food preparation and serving. Love offerings from the congregation for refreshments supplement the church’s budget for the Social Fund, which helps to pay for large events such as our Thanksgiving dinner and summer picnic. The Social Committee organizes holiday events each year and assists with occasional luncheons between Sunday service and Congregational meetings or special events.

Sunday Offering Counters
Counters oversee the inflow of love and prosperity that our church brings forth when we gather as one. Our counters work in pairs.

Usher Team
Ushers provide a welcoming and facilitating presence during worship and special services. The ushers are to make sure the sanctuary is warm and welcoming looking. The lights are adjusted during the meditation. They welcome congregants as they come into the sanctuary with warm smile.  They take up the Sunday offering at the end of the service. Most importantly, the ushers are part of a team with greeters to welcome people to a spiritual experience at Unity Church of Greater Rochester. Volunteers are trained and work in pairs. They are scheduled through a coordinator.

Welcoming Ministry
The mission of the Welcoming Ministry is to reach out to visitors and new congregants, offering a warm welcome to our services, facilitating the growth of relationships and offering the opportunity for deepening involvement in church life. The Welcoming Ministry works in concert with the ministers and other church volunteer ministries, including Greeters, Ushers, Platform Assistants, Publicity, etc.

Youth Education
Our education program provides a caring, nurturing, friendly, welcoming environment for children of all ages and teens. Vetted volunteers help our youth develop by teaching Unity principles and curriculum through prayer and the arts: story, drama, puppets, and visual arts. Help teens grow through discussion and study with peers. Volunteers assist our ministry leader in the Sunday School on an as-needed basis.

rosesWeddings

Christenings

Christening is an ancient ritual that predates even the earliest Christian traditions. The rite and the interpretation of its meaning have undergone many changes over time, and today christening is practiced in many different ways. The purpose of Christening is to recognize the spiritual identity and purpose of a soul. In Unity, we look to the example of Jesus as our guide. In Mark 10: 13-16 we read that Jesus took children in his arms and blessed them.

Christening in Unity is the act of welcoming a child into our world and recognizing this soul by name in its human journey. It is a time for parents to dedicate themselves to raising their child in an awareness of God’s loving presence.

Godparents

You may choose as many people as you wish, or have no Godparents. There is no legal obligation or responsibility made through a Christening service.

Spiritual Baptisms

For children and adults, we also provide a spiritual baptism service.

Memorial Services

At the time of the passing of a loved one, many people want a service and don’t know where to turn. We are here to support people in times of grief and loss. We can provide services at the location of your choice. Our services are positive, uplifting celebrations of the life lived. We honor each person’s spiritual traditions.

Home Blessings

A private home blessing ceremony acknowledges and honors your home as sacred space, a sanctuary of love, peace and joy. Many people request a home blessing as they settle into a new home or apartment, but a home blessing ceremony is appropriate at any time, whether you have just moved in or have lived in your home for many years.

Sacred Healing

Our Sacred Healing Ministry offer hands on spiritual healing in the sanctuary after church service once a month, usually on the third Sunday. You can choose to experience the gifts offered from our givers or simply sit quietly and enjoy the sacred space, energy and music. Be open to receive and believe. It is a moving experience for all who participate.

Burning Bowl/Letter to God

Many Unity churches hold a Burning Bowl service at or near the New Year. This ceremony is meant to provide contemplative time to be aware of ideas, thoughts, and habits that no longer serve one’s highest good. Through meditation, these thoughts are revealed and then written on paper which is burned as a symbol of release. This ceremony creates space in consciousness to be filled with God thoughts, thoughts born from a higher consciousness. After the release, you will be given time to write your own personal Letter to God to declare and affirm what you want to bring into your life the coming year. The letter will be held for you, in prayer, and mailed back to you at Christmas time the following year.

White Stone

In Unity, a traditional White Stone Ceremony is held the first Sunday of the New Year. It is derived from ancient teaching, allowing individuals to focus on what lies on their path by receiving a new name. It involves a brief meditation allowing your higher self to give you a name for the New Year. This name represents what you wish to heal and accomplish throughout the year. This new name is written on a white stone and indicates your freedom from the past. As you enter the New Year, come, inquire and embrace a divine revelation.

Candle Lighting

Unity’s Candle Lighting Service is a beautiful and inspiring ceremony. A ceremony that speaks to the way Christ’s light shines through each of us, illuminating the world around us. Each one of us is a keeper of the “Light.” Just as the light from a single candle can send out a beam that will light up a darkened room, the light of the Christ we hold, seemingly so small and unimportant, can be far-reaching. There is no stopping a beam of Light! Light leaps chasms, fills the darkened space, and erases time.

Little Library

Out in the yard on the side of our entrance stands a Little Library that is stocked with books for your uplifting reading pleasure. Take a book – leave a book if you wish. It is our gift to you for a day’s boost!

The Gallery at Unity

The Gallery at Unity is a welcoming space located within the Bookstore. The gallery is the result of a volunteer project completed in 2017 that provides Unity Church of Greater Rochester artists an environment to share their work while enhancing our church environment. The exhibits are changed on a regular basis and all works are for sale. Arrangements to purchase items on display can be made with exhibiting artists.

The Lending Library

Unity Church of Greater Rochester has a wonderful small lending library that stocks books on Unity, New Thought and New Age philosophy and history. The books are available to sign out and read at home. We simply ask that they be returned in a timely fashion. All books have been generously donated by our congregants and bookstore. New donations of Unity books in good condition are always welcome and appreciated.
