“We shall serve for the joy of serving. Prosperity shall flow to us and through us in unending streams of plenty.” — Charles Fillmore
Ministry Teams
Unity of Daytona Beach offers many opportunities to serve — within our community and beyond our walls. If you resonate with the description of one of the ministry teams listed below, contact us.
Coffee Angels
Coordinator: Patti Bolema
The Coffee Angels work primarily in our Fellowship Hall kitchen getting food, snacks and hot and cold drinks nicely set up for the congregants’ social time after each Sunday service. Occasionally, the Coffee Angels are asked to assist in serving snacks and coffee at other church social events. Always willing to help when they can, they are truly “angels.”
Congregation Care
Coordinator: Lynn Myers
The Congregation Care Team provides for the needs of our congregants and their families when a family member makes his or her transition. Team members assist in preparing a memorial service and after-service gathering at our church — including providing greeters/ushers for their guests, childcare for babies or small children, even house sitters for people while they are at the service. This team is looking for people who seek to transform a day of loss into a day of Love. No special training is needed — just a compassionate heart.
Greeters
Coordinator: Nelson Shreve
The greeters welcome people as they come into the church. They are there to make sure that everyone who comes through our doors feels welcome. Whether a visitor or a long-time attendee, each person who shows up at our door each Sunday is the most important person in the world. At this time there are four greeters, but more are needed. Greeters are people who love other people and are really friendly and who do it because they love what they are doing.
Healing Team
Coordinator: Joanne Vogel
Attendees at Unity of Daytona Beach have responded positively to the healing ministry since its inception in 2009. The Unity Healing Team Ministry currently has 16 members who are either Reiki or Healing Touch practitioners, or both. Each Sunday after both the 9 a.m. and the 11 a.m. services, the Healing Team offers brief 5-10 minute healing sessions to anyone who requests one. The healing ministry is open to any church member who is a caring, compassionate practitioner of Reiki or Healing Touch and who is willing to devote a minimum of two Sundays per month after either the 9 a.m. and the 11 a.m. service.
Maintenance/Building/Grounds
Helper: Patrick O’Brien
The Maintenance/Building/Grounds team, under the guidance of the Church Board of Trustees and office staff, contributes to the ongoing upkeep of the church building and property. This team needs people who have the talents and creative skills to enhance the physical presence of our church, in order to make it a welcoming center of spiritual growth.
Media Booth
Coordinator: Jennifer Romero
The Media Booth Team is responsible for running the PowerPoint slides, the sound system and the lights for both Sunday services. The slides allow the congregation to follow song lyrics, view key points during the sermon and stay informed about upcoming church classes and events. This team is looking for energetic, enthusiastic people who are comfortable with technology and who would enjoy contributing to the quality and effectiveness of our Sunday services.
Men of Unity
Co-Coordinators: Marc Gilmet & Patrick O’Brien
Men of Unity is a caring circle of men, hosting dynamic, educational discussions to nurture spiritual awareness and growth. The monthly meeting usually includes a meal, fellowship, prayer, meditation and a program to apply spiritual awareness to the daily lives of the men who participate. The facilitating of program topics rotates so each group member who chooses to has an opportunity to share in the selection of activities and discussion topics to make the meetings fulfilling and effective.
Music Ministry
Music Director: Ken Reed
The Music Ministry at Unity of Daytona Beach is designed to support our services and other church activities by performing a broad selection of spiritual and inspirational music and by leading the congregation in sacred song. Members of our volunteer choir sing at both the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services. Choir practices are held each week at 2 p.m. on Thursday. We are fortunate to have a professional accompanist, Dr. Becki Sanford; in addition, we encourage musicians from within our congregation to come forward and offer their talents, either with their voice or instruments. Throughout the year we welcome guest musicians who are visiting our church from around the country — or even from around the world.
Nursery Angels
Coordinator: Suzanne Amsel
Nursery care is provided from 9 a.m. until noon for infants through age five. We provide a safe place for children to nap or play while family members enjoy the services. We would like to have loving individuals interested in occasionally substituting for one or both services.
Outreach & Marketing
Co-Coordinators: Jeff & Suzy Stoner
The Outreach & Marketing team reaches out to the community beyond our church walls — both to serve others in projects of compassion and to introduce Unity of Daytona Beach to those in our community who may be looking for a church home. For example, a group of volunteers from our church helps serve the homeless and others in Daytona Beach once each month. Members of this team host a welcome tent at various community events throughout the year, and they also participate at local Chamber of Commerce meetings.
Sunday Desk Angels
Coordinator: Rev. Linda Machesic
The Sunday Desk Angels Ministry is important because our Sunday Desk Angels serve all in attendance at each Sunday Service. They welcome everyone warmly, answer questions, direct first-time visitors, take CD orders and do it all with a smile. Sunday Desk Angels are friendly participants who are prepared to serve for 15-20 minutes after one Sunday service a month.
Ushers
Co-Coordinators: Ron Guilmette & Marianne Verna
Our ushers have many important duties to perform other than the very important one of greeting people as they enter the sanctuary for Sunday service. They also hand out informational packets to first-time visitors and invite them to fellowship afterward. Our ushers also help support the meditation and other reverent times during the service, collect and help count the offering and tidy up the sanctuary after the service. Each team of two ushers covers only one Sunday per month. Our ushers are cheery, happy people who genuinely like people, who feel a part of our church and who take personal pride in making everyone entering the sanctuary feel like they are at home and welcome.
Wonderful Women of Unity
Coordinator: Fran Sanders
Each month the Wonderful Women of Unity come together in friendship to grow in spirit and to be a support to each other. Each meeting focuses on a special theme and perhaps features a guest speaker, and there is always time made for meaningful dialogue over snacks and coffee.
